About us

The Jakobsson’s have a long tradition in glass – in one way or another.

My grandfather Oskar was a skilled glass grinder at the Orrefors Glassworks. He lived next door to the glasswork, with his family.

It was only natural that my father Thomas started working summers in the hot glass workshop early on, at the young age of 13. When he finished his primary schooling, he started as an apprentice in the mold shop at the famous Orrefors Glasswork, learning the skills from the senior craftsmen. He later moved on to be a specialist moldmaker for the glass industry at large.

My parents met through work. As a baby I’d fall asleep in my pram, hushed by the sounds from the hot glass studio where my mother worked as a glass artist/designer. When I grew up, glass, molds, the making thereof, and talking about glass were all a natural part of everyday life.

”We have the know-how, experience, and skills to help glassblowers all over the world, be their best!”

Mold Shop established in 1968

That’s the year my father Thomas started his own business as a mold maker. Smack in the midst of ”The Swedish Glass Kingdom”, with most of his customers within driving distance. But eventually, his reputation spread. Over the years molds and blocks have been delivered to glassmakers all over the world – England, Japan, USA, Australia, Mexico, India, Egypt, and all the Nordic countries too of course.

Karl Jakobsson

That’s me. Like many sons, I was not too keen to follow in my father’s footsteps – at least not at first. I ended up working with advanced machining, in the metal industry, instead.

But it seems there is no escaping your heritage. Even if I hadn’t planned it, it turns out my own industrial background is useful also for mold making.

So eventually I picked up the torch. The beauty is, that my father is still going strong. Today we combine his vast experience from years of mold making and skilled handcraft with my own knowledge of modern machinery in order to produce high-quality precision molds and blocks for the glass community. We’ve also expanded into metal tools, such as blowing pipes and punties.

We continue to serve glassblowers all over the world and we hope that you will be among the many esteemed customers that we are proud to supply with molds, blocks, and tools.
